Hurricane Halsey
the Story of Solo Ocean Rower (and epileptic)
Andrew Halsey
By Joy Lennick & Andrew Halsey
Andrew Halsey is a resolute, stubborn guy who doesn't understand
the meaning of 'No' or 'You can't'! Since the tender age of nine,
Andrew dreamed of rowing solo across an ocean. The fact that
in adulthood he was blighted by epilepsy hasn't deterred him;
it's just one more challenge to overcome. Finally, he amasses
adequate funds to finance his dream and sets out in his 28ft
rowing boat, which is named Brittany Rose after his only daughter.
A virgin ocean rower, he can only surmise what lies ahead as
he resolutely dips his oars into the waters of the Atlantic,
embarking on the hazardous journey from Tenerife to St Lucia.
The Atlantic, where calm waters turn into skyscraper-high waves
in the blink of an eye.

Constantly beset by fickle and often dangerous weather conditions, Andrew
rows on and experiences the aggravations and joys of the ever
changing sea and what Mother Nature has on the itinerary. Wearing
a harness to safeguard him when seizures intrude, he is constantly
tormented by salt sores and other minor injuries, yet he battles
against the odds. By landfall, he has the bug and is determined
that his next objective will be the Pacific Ocean!
